Lithgow Area

Just over half an hour's drive north from Lithgow, the beautiful Capertree Valley winds between dramatic escarpments of sandstone cliff and native bushland. Abundant in flora and wildlife, this area is recognised internationally as a top bird watching area, and has a dedicated bird watching trail. Capertee National Park also offers other spectacular walks, camping as well as heritage homestead accommodation.

To the east of Capertree, and measuring more than 5,000 sq kms Wollemi National Park is the largest wilderness area in the state. It’s also incredibly rugged, a maze of canyons, cliffs and dense forest, ideal for bushwalkers, campers and canoeists looking for an authentic bush adventure. This spectacular area is around 45 minutes drive from Lithgow. 

Capertree Valley, Blue Mountains

Nearby Wolgan Valley is a majestic slice of free-range Australia and adventure activity specialist Life’s an Adventure offers a two-day guided walk exploring the escarpments, beehive pagoda rock formations, bushland and ancient aboriginal rock paintings of this beautiful valley, with native wildlife encounters along the way. This is a fully supported walk, with luggage transport and comfortable tented accommodation.

On the edge of Lyell Lake just outside Lithgow, the Japanese Garden & Bathhouse is a genuine experience in Japanese culture with an onsen-style outdoor hot spring bath, a tea house, a Zen temple garden and massages. The complex also offers unique Japanese-style accommodation.

Just 40 kms north-west of Lithgow, Gardens of Stone National Park is a pocket-sized paradise whose exquisite rock formations are a favourite for wilderness photographers. Highlights of the park include the Bicentennial Trail, the Ben Bullen Trail, Baal Bone Gap and the awesome views of the Newnes Plateau
