The history of the whole area has been well-preserved, and the local town of Narrandera is a National Trust-protected area. Be sure to check out Dunera Museum at Hay Railway Station: Hay Internment and POW Camps Interpretive Centre and Hermit Caves.

Two men with big parts in Australia's history spent time in this part of Country NSW. Follow the footsteps of Walter Burley Griffin and Banjo Paterson as you visit area towns. Griffin, most famous for designing the layout of Canberra, was also the architect behind Griffith and Leeton. Paterson, the famous poet, wrote many pieces about the area, including a famous poem about Hay.

Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy a Griffith getaway. Explore the red gums by the Murrumbidgee River, camp in Cocoparra National Park or look for native wildlife in the koala-spotting reserve. If you like birdwatching, Fivebough Wetlands near Leeton is home to rare and endangered species.

Griffith's new city park is a must-visit, along with picturesque Lake Wyangan, where you can camp, sail and fish. The River Drive along the Murrumbidgee to Narrandera, Tubbo Station and Lake Talbot is also a popular touring route.
