Gundagai Bakery
Highlights
Overview
Believed to be the oldest working bakery in Australia, the Historic Gundagai Bakery has been a cornerstone of the community since 1864. It was established by German immigrant and skilled baker William Bibo, who went on to become a successful businessman and later the Mayor of Gundagai.
In 1976, when the bakery faced closure, the people of Gundagai rallied to preserve this important piece of local history. Fifty passionate residents became shareholders in a new company that purchased both the business and its historic premises, ensuring the ovens kept baking.
For the past 23 years, John Catling has been the proud lessee of the bakery, delighting locals and visitors alike with his famous Little John's Pies, as well as a delicious range of cakes, slices, sandwiches, and coffee.
Renowned for his award-winning pies and sausage rolls, John continues the bakery's long tradition of quality and community spirit. With its welcoming atmosphere and mouth-watering treats, the Historic Gundagai Bakery remains a favorite spot for families and traveler's alike — a true taste of Gundagai's history.
