Are you heading towards a glut of tomatoes? Be prepared with this workshop on tomato relish and sauce making!
Start with a cuppa and tastings of their signature tomato relish, green tomato relish and tomato sauce, while you chat about the fundamentals of these preserving methods, from ingredient and jar selection and prep, to steps in production, bottling and storage. The importance of acidity, temperature and heat sealing will be discussed, and you will put everything into practice when you get "hands on" using either your own tomatoes or those provided, to prepare and make a batch of yummy tomato relish or sauce.
There will be lots of guidance during each step, as well as suggestions for variations of each recipe.
With the skills and knowledge gained from this class, you'll be equipped to take advantage of the seasonal glut of tomatoes and make these tasty preserves for use throughout the year, or as beautiful handmade gifts.
What you'll get:
A minimum of one jar of tomato relish or a bottle of sauce.
Full workshop notes and recipes, including other ideas for preserving tomatoes.
What to bring:
If you have excess, you may like to bring 1kg of your own medium to large tomatoes (not cherry tomatoes) and a clean sterile 250-400ml jar or bottle and lid.
Please wear closed-in non-slip shoes.
