Old Salt Distillery
Overview
After much hard work from the owners – husband and wife Terry and Michelle Robinson – the food and drink enterprise that is Old Salt Distillery opened in South Nowra in March 2022.
The couple describe themselves as chefs/brewers who also “serve customers, pour drinks, carry plates, wash dishes and clean bathrooms” – all part and parcel of running a small craft brewery.
Unlike most industrial-estate brewers and distillers, Old Salt features an open kitchen, wood-fired grill and a menu that hints at this couple’s fine-dining past (they both worked at Sepia in Sydney). Regulars on the menu might include barbecued corn with corn puree and lime butter, or melt-in-the-mouth Cape Grim beef ribs.
The couple’s inventiveness extends to the drinks: think house-made sodas such as blackberry, ginger beer and pineapple-apple; fresh-fruit seltzers such as a strawberry and lime hard seltzer; and seasonal craft beer releases such as cherry sour (created using 20kg of hand-pitted cherries) and milk-chocolate stout.
