Arts and culture in Canberra
Canberra's many galleries and museums make it a great destination to visit for an insight into Australia's rich cultural history.
About Canberra Area
Canberra is Australia's national capital city and centre of government. This striking inland city surrounded by farmland is 289 km south-west of Sydney. It's a great example of urban planning and landscape architecture, thanks to the visionary work of Chicago-born designer, Walter Burley Griffin.
There are plenty of things to see and do in Canberra. Hear tales of wartime valour at the Australian War Memorial, visit the country's best art collection at the National Gallery of Australia and the fascinating interactive science and technology at Questacon. Canberra also has a vibrant food culture with fine local wines, great restaurants and a local food trail known as the Poacher's Pantry.
