Local Kamilaroi women artists had a dream. Two decades later this dream came to life in a stunning water feature with the rainbow serpent winding its way past circular glass mosaics.
The Rainbow Serpent water feature represents the journey of determination and cultural expression by generations of proud Gunnedah Kamilaroi women. The snake, glistening in the sun, can be found at the entrance to the Civic complex and the Visitor Information Centre.
Installed in 2020, the much-loved Water Feature captured national attention in March 2021, taking home silver in the 2020 Australian Street Art Awards in the category of Best Rural Art.
