Gunnedah Rainbow Serpent Water Feature

More than 20 years ago, a group of proud Kamilaroi women artists shared a vision to tell an important cultural story through art. Today, that vision comes to life in the stunning Rainbow Serpent Water Feature, a vibrant landmark celebrating culture, creativity and community.

Featuring the Rainbow Serpent, an important figure in Kamilaroi Dreaming, this striking public artwork winds gracefully through 29 colourful glass mosaic circles. Each mosaic reflects a story of resilience, connection and achievement, honouring the generations of women whose dedication and determination brought the project to fruition.

Positioned at the entrance to Gunnedah's Cultural Precinct, the Rainbow Serpent Water Feature creates a welcoming gateway to the Civic Theatre, Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery and Visitor Information Centre. Blending art, culture and storytelling, the installation offers visitors a meaningful insight into the rich heritage of the Kamilaroi people.

Since its unveiling in 2020, the feature has become one of Gunnedah's most admired attractions. Its significance was recognised nationally in 2021 when it received a Silver Award in the Australian Street Art Awards for Best Rural Art.
