More than 20 years ago, a group of proud Kamilaroi women artists dreamed of sharing a powerful story through art. Today, that dream shimmers in the form of the Rainbow Serpent Water Feature - a breathtaking celebration of culture, strength and connection.

This stunning installation features the Rainbow Serpent, a central figure in Kamilaroi Dreaming stories, gracefully winding its way past 29 vibrant glass mosaics. Each circle represents a chapter of resilience and creativity, crafted to honour generations of women who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life.

Glistening under the sun, the serpent welcomes visitors at the entrance to Gunnedah's Cultural Precinct - home to the Civic Theatre, the Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery and Visitor Information Centre. It's more than art; it's a living story, symbol of determination and identity.

Since its installation in 2020, this much-loved landmark has captured hearts near and far. In March 2021, it was celebrated on the national stage, winning silver in the Australian Street Art Awards for Best Rural Art.

Pause for a moment here, listen to the gentle sound of water, and feel the spirit of Kamilaroi culture flowing through this remarkable creation.
