Junee Hotel Heritage Week – Rails & Stories
Overview
Step back in time and experience 150 years of living history in the heart of Junee at the Junee Hotel Heritage Week – Rails & Stories.
Held in the first week of January, this immersive, week-long event celebrates the story of the Junee Hotel (est. 1878) and its deep connection to one of Australia's most iconic railway towns. Designed as a gateway to exploring Junee, the event transforms the historic hotel into an interactive heritage experience.
At the centre of the event is the "1878 QR Heritage Trail" - a self-guided journey through the Junee Hotel featuring heritage signage, story plaques and QR codes that unlock fascinating stories of the building, its people and the town's railway past. Visitors can scan, explore and discover history brought to life in a modern and engaging way.
Throughout the week, the hotel comes alive with:
Live storytelling and bush poets sharing Australian folklore
Heritage-inspired food and drink experiences
Community performances, including local school presentations
Guided pathways connecting visitors to local attractions such as the Junee Roundhouse Museum and Broadway Museum
Whether you're a history lover, road tripper, rail enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique regional experience, Heritage Week offers a chance to stay, explore, and connect with Junee's rich past.
