Why go there

Situated close to the major population centres of Newcastle, the Central Coast and Sydney, Morisset presents a wealth of leisure opportunities.

To the east, Lake Macquarie is an aquatic playground, ideal for anyone who enjoys fishing, sailing or swimming. To the west, Watagan State Forest is a rugged wilderness of temperate rainforest, sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and eucalypt forests that erupt in spring with the dramatic flowers of the gymea lillies. For the active traveller in search of prime bushwalking or climbing terrain, this is adventure country par excellence.

Horse-riding is another popular activity in the region - there are several riding establishments which offer rides along bushland trails that thread through the wilderness.

History

Morisset was established in 1840, although it remained a modest township throughout the 19th century. Since that time it has come to be appreciated for its natural credentials and its superb location.
