In 2013 Surfest will celebrate its 28th year and continue its status as Australia's largest festival of surfing.

Some of the world's best professional surfers will return to Newcastle to battle it out for the prestigious Mark Richards Trophy in the Burton Toyota Pro, and join the honour roll of past champions including Kelly Slater, Tom Curren, Mick Fanning and Tom Carroll.

A six-star Women's ASP World Tour Star Event and an internationally rated Pro Junior Event will also be contested over the 12 days of competition.
