The historic slab timber gaol is located on a one-acre site, skirted by the Thone River; with the original Comboyne Police Station built in 1905. The restoration of the old gaol has helped preserve the rich history of the Comboyne Plateau. Wander through the old gaol and learn more about the historic site. Old and enchanting places are a special find so you will enjoy this different experience shared with you in the very distinctive garden, wood gallery, gift centre and old gaol. Local artists have created timber works from native and salvaged timbers while other artists have created ceramic works to tantalise visitors.

Over 116 years ago, the structures started to appear and make their presence felt. But it’s the trees and expansive lawn, surrounded by the Thone River that gives Larrikins Lock-up its unique charm.

Enjoy wandering gardens of mature trees of oak, walnut, birch, cedars, bunya pine, rhododendron, wattle, viburnum and weigela. Bowerbirds live here and share the garden with many other friendly birds. The ducks often float by to chat to the horses across the river, while our shy platypus snuggles in his burrow. most of the day.

The centre has a variety of healthy plants available that are locally conditioned, drought hardy and suitable for attracting native birds to your garden.
