Events in Port Macquarie
The Port Macquarie region stretches from the north of Port Macquarie to Telegraph Point, south to Laurieton and Camden Haven, west to the Comboyne Plateau, and includes the rural heart of the region, Wauchope. With one of Australia’s best temperature climates, the region is abundant with national parks, surf beaches and coastal towns to explore, while heritage attractions are poignant reminders of its beginnings as a penal settlement in the 1820s.
A full calendar of events adds to the region’s allure. The Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail features 50 uniquely hand painted and decorated fibreglass koalas. The event runs until the end of 2015 and is a celebration of Port Macquarie’s status as the koala capital of Australia, home to the world’s only Koala Hospital and one of the country’s largest coastal koala populations.
The region’s beaches, lakes and intricate waterways are ideal for family-friendly adventures: water sports, whale watching or relaxing on the sands. The annual Ironman 70.3 event, an October triathlon event set in and around Port Macquarie, showcases the best of this natural beauty.
Other events returning each year include the Comboyne Village Fair, the Camden Haven Cup and the Timbertown Annual Steam Fair.
