The Newcastle Music Festival is an annual fine music festival held in various venues (some historic or unique) in Newcastle over 12 days and nights during August. There will be 19 concerts and events involving over 250 performers. Superb guest artists will perform alongside local musicians.
The list of performers and events for 2017 includes Hyeseoung Kwon (soprano), Deborah Humble (mezzo-soprano), Orava Quartet, Sally Walker (flute), Anthony Albrecht (cello), Anna da Silva Chen (violin), Christ Church Camerata, Hunter Singers, Newcastle Youth Orchestra, Gavin Clark (cello), Christopher Allan (baritone), Erin Sweetman (piano), Brett McMahon (artist), Dungeon Big Band, Peter Guy (organ), David Banney (conductor), Kim Sutherland (conductor), Sylvia Clark (contralto), Ross Fiddes (piano), Ian Cook (conductor), Claire Howard Race (piano), Christ Church Camerata Quartet, Julia Kim (harp), and the Nan Price Memorial Piano Competition.
Some highlights include: Schubert's "String Quintet in C", Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", Rutter's "Requiem", Haydn's "Cello Concerto No 2", Elgar's "Sea Pictures", Whitacre's "Five Hebrew Love Songs", Schumann's "Dichterliebe", Shostakovich's "String Quartet No 8", Respighi's "Suite for Organ and Strings", Mahler's "Rückert Lieder", and Mendelssohn's "Hear My Prayer".
