Narrabri Lake and Pirate Park
Highlights
Overview
Once transformed by dedicated volunteers from swamp land into a recreational playground, Narrabri Lake is now one of the town's most popular spots for locals and visitors alike. Swimmers, canoeists, picnickers and windsurfers all enjoy its calm waters and scenic surrounds.
For the energetic, a three-kilometre walking and cycling track loops around the Lake, offering plenty of opportunities to take in the views. Bird watchers will find the islands at the southern end a haven for local and migrating birds — black swans and their cygnets are often seen feeding among the reeds.
Each Saturday morning at 8am, the Narrabri Parkrun takes place around the Lake — a free, timed 5km community event that welcomes walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities.
Picnic tables, barbecue facilities and a basketball court are located at the Mooloobar Street end of the Lake.
At the southern end, the much-loved Pirate Park features a fantastic playground for younger visitors, complete with shaded picnic areas, barbecues and public toilets. A new splash pad, free to use and covered by a shade sail, provides the perfect way for children to cool off and have fun during the warmer months — though be warned, they may never want to leave!
