Overview
The refrigeration unit was one of Australia's first when pioneering meat exporter Arthur Sims installed it in 1922. Refrigeration was a major boon to the isolated Yanga Homestead and its staff of 40.
Chilled to near freezing temperatures, the cool rooms were used to make ice blocks. The ice was used in domestic ice boxes to cool milk, butter and vegetables.
