Sunday Sounds: Dorian Mode’s What The World Needs Now- A Tribute to Burt Bacharach & Hal David
Overview
The first concert Dorian ever attended (with his parents) was Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney when he was just 10 years old (with, curiously, ventriloquist Chris Kirby as the support act for some bizarre reason). That magical evening sparked a lifelong passion for the timeless compositions of Bacharach and his lyrical counterpart Hal David. While his peers were immersed in rock anthems, Dorian was studying jazz piano and vocals at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music but also losing himself in the sophisticated melodies and heartfelt lyrics of songs like "Walk on By" and "This Guy's in Love with You." Dorian considers Bacharach to be the final torchbearer in the lineage of great American composers that includes Porter, Berlin, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart.
In this meticulously crafted tribute, Dorian's trio breathe new life into the songbook that defined an era. Journey through the remarkable Bacharach-David partnership that created some of popular music's most enduring classics, including "What the World Needs Now is Love" and "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" alongside lesser-known gems from their extensive catalogue.
