Tallangatta 70th Anniversary Celebration
Overview
Join in and commemorate 70 years since the remarkable relocation of Tallangatta - one of Australia's most unique town stories.
This special weekend celebrates the resilience, determination and community spirit that shaped the Tallangatta of today. Come along to honour their history, reconnect with old friends, share memories, and enjoy a program of events for all ages.
Originally established in the 1850s, Tallangatta served as an important gateway to the Mitta Valley and Upper Murray. When the expansion of Lake Hume threatened to flood the town, the community faced an extraordinary challenge. Rather than disappear beneath the rising waters, Tallangatta was relocated and rebuilt on higher ground, overlooking the lake it now calls home.
