Our Backyard by Vicki Luke
Overview
If backyards could talk, what stories would they tell?
In collaboration with students from Wodonga Primary School, local artist Vicki Luke has created a large-scale mixed media work on paper which explores the changing nature of the local environment.
During Term 2 of 2025, a group of students visited Hyphen for weekly art making sessions with Vicki. Here, the students practiced different drawing and mixed media techniques, examined insects, birds and made drawings about their own backyards.
The students' drawings became the starting point for the large-scale work which Vicki then developed and added to. Our Backyard aims to awaken a sense of wonder in the resilience of nature and what someone may see in the tiniest of spaces.
