Don Quixote
Overview
Albury Wodonga Youth Ballet proudly presents one of ballet's most beloved romantic comedies, Don Quixote.
Based on the timeless classic by Miguel de Cervantes – widely considered the first modern novel ever written – this ballet follows the titular character Don Quixote as he sets off on a quest to find his true love, Dulcinea.
Early on in this quest, he meets a young couple, Kitri and Basilio. They wish to be married, but Kitri's father, Lorenzo, insists she marry the foppish nobleman, Gamache. Kitri and Basilio try to evade Lorenzo by seeking refuge with a group of travellers. Hilarity ensues as Don Quixote follows and attempts to fight a windmill, believing it to be a monster. Eventually true love triumphs and Kitri and Basilio celebrate their wedding. Don Quixote leaves for his next adventure.
With gorgeous music by Ludwig Minkus and incredibly talented up-and-coming ballet dancers from across the region, this production promises entertainment for the whole family. Directed by Beth Docker.
