From Cows to Crocodiles: Animals in the Collection
Overview
Animals have appeared in art for thousands of years. From Aboriginal rock art and the Lascaux cave paintings to contemporary jewellery and assemblages, animals have been a never-ending source of inspiration.
This exhibition from Orange Regional Gallery's permanent collection, draws together artworks featuring animals through a variety of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, textiles, jewellery, and sculpture.
The various depictions of animals demonstrate the different roles animals play. From the literal to metaphorical, companion to food source, predator to prey, and as co-inhabitants of the world we share.
The exhibition features work by Charles Blackman, Elisabeth Cummings, Ken Done, Max Dupain, Harrie Fasher, Hans Heysen, Jenny Kee, Euan Macleod, John Olsen, Hilda Rix Nicholas, David Yirawala, and Salvatore Zofrea amongst others.
