Albury Gold Cup Carnival - Festivals and Celebrations, Sporting Events The Albury Gold Cup is the Melbourne Cup of the bush. It’s Australia’s biggest and fastest-growing country race meeting, it has won NSW Country Racing’s meeting of the year award and is even giving the Darwin Cup a run for its money in terms of crowd figures.
The cup carnival is held over two days during the autumn thoroughbred racing season, climaxing on the second day with the running of the $100,000 Albury Gold Cup feature race. The carnival has all the highlights of metropolitan cup events including a hotly-contested fashions on the field competition, top-quality entries and highly-developed marquee and social package choices (nursery, birdcage, trackside and centre-field areas are just some of the options available to those wishing to entertain on the day).
Despite its sophistication in terms of a racing event though, the Albury Gold Cup still bears all the hallmarks of what makes country racing such a wonderful experience – a beautiful natural setting, the opportunity to mingle with the local community and a chance to take a “destination holiday” in a distinct and unique part of rural NSW.
