There are 18 beaches in the Greater Port Macquarie area, each with its own unique charm and an assortment of attractions. Whether you enjoy surfing, boating, fishing, or just paddling in the sea, finding the perfect beach in Port Macquarie is only a matter of looking.
Port Macquarie beaches
Situated in a beautiful location where the Hastings River meets the Pacific Ocean, Port Macquarie is surrounded by pristine beaches. Endless beachside pursuits will keep you entertained - coastal walks, surfing, sailboarding, swimming, fishing and even camel rides on the beach. Many beaches feature BBQs and playgrounds and there are plenty of learn-to-surf schools that are accredited.
Many of Port Macquarie’s beaches are patrolled during the summer months, offering protection for swimmers and surfers alike whilst the sheltered beaches and bays are perfect for families with young children.
From North Haven, 30km south of Port Macquarie, to Crescent Head, 9 km south-east of Kempsey, the beaches around the greater Port Macquarie area offer everything from relaxation to adventure.
Grants Beach
Grants Beach in North Haven is a 3.5km stretch of beach, ending in a breakwall that offers some great right-handers in the correct conditions. The beach is patrolled from the surf club to the breakwall, a section that is ideal for swimming, while the entire beach is good for surfers and those wanting to fish. There are toilets, showers, a kiosk and picnic tables at the southern end of the shoreline.
A walking track runs adjacent to the beach, while Grants Beach Coast Walk runs from the mouth of the Camden Haven River and ends at the cliffs of Grants Headland. Taking you through heathland, forest and wildflower meadows, the walk also offers good bird spotting opportunities.
Lighthouse Beach

Seven kilometres south of Port Macquarie, Lighthouse Beach is a nine-kilometre stretch, separated by Watonga Rocks. Surfers can enjoy some good beach breaks, with the better waves found at the northern end of the beach.
North of Watonga Rocks is the ideal location for a family day out, where visitors can swim, surf, have a picnic and visit the lighthouse. There is also a café, surf club, a viewing area and toilets. South of the Rocks, activities include fishing, swimming, fishing, dog walking, 4x4 Driving, and camel safaris.

Flynns Beach
Three kilometres south of Port Macquarie, is the city’s most popular family beach. Flynns Beach is sheltered and ideal for swimming and people learning to surf. Equipped with BBQs, a picnic area, toilets, playground, beach showers, a café, and surf club, the beach offers the perfect day out for all the family.

Pilot Beach
Protected by two breakwalls, Pilot Beach is ideal for families with young children. Situated at the mouth of the Camden Haven River in Dunbogan, this beach is a beautiful spot for swimming and fishing, and is equipped with BBQs, a picnic area, playground and toilets. Nearby Kattang Nature Reserve has excellent walking trails.

Crescent Head
Crescent Head Beach is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Hat Head National Park, Goolawah Reserve and the Limeburners Creek Nature Reserve. To protect this stunning coastline, Crescent Head National Surfing Reserve stretches along 3.5km of coastline from north of Port Macquarie.
