About the Forster & Taree Area

Discover spectacular beaches, beautiful lakes, tranquil rivers, verdant hinterland and enchanting wilderness just a few hours’ drive north of Sydney. Forster is the heart of the Great Lakes, a unique triple lake system. Taree, a riverside town, is 35 minutes’ drive away in delightful Manning Valley.

Around Forster enjoy dolphin cruises, fishing, sailboarding and scuba diving. The Great Lakes and nearby sandy beaches are brimming with wildlife and perfect for water activities including kayaking, and sailing. Hire a houseboat for a holiday on the stunning waterways, enjoy gorgeous beaches and explore towns such as Hawks NestPacific Palms and Bulahdelah.

Explore from Old Bar near the Crowdy Bay National Park to Wingham’s historic town centre. And one hour north from Wingham you can amble in subtropical rainforests in Coorabakh National Park. Visit Big Nellie lookout for uninterrupted views over the volcanic formations that distinguish the park.

The Ellenborough Falls in the Manning Valley is one of the longest single-drop waterfalls in the Southern Hemisphere. Taree is by the Manning River and an excellent base for exploring the natural attractions, including Diamond Beach, or enjoying a picnic. You can also enjoy wine tasting at boutique wineries in the valley.

Fly into Taree Airport

Taree Airport is 5 km from Taree’s town centre. Use the taxi services to make the short trip northeast. Alternatively, rent a car from the hire services available at the airport and explore the regions of Manning Valley and the Great Lakes at your own pace.

Regional Express services the airport with direct flights to and from Sydney and Newcastle. For other major Australian cities, connect via Sydney to travel into Taree.
