During World War I, anti-German sentiment led to Germanton being renamed Holbrook, after British Navy Submarine Commander Norman Holbrook. Today, you can clamber all over the submarine HMAS Otway, which lies in parkland on the main road, and visit the Holbrook Submarine Museum.

Holbrook is an ideal stopover if you're travelling through Country NSW on the way to Melbourne from Sydney. Choose from a range of accommodation when you're in town.

There are plenty of things to see and do in this small town, which offers picturesque parklands and bushwalks, heritage buildings and submarine history. Stroll through Ten Mile Gardens, an idyllic park with picnic and barbecue facilities, or wander through bushland on the Ian Geddes Bushwalk. Kids will enjoy a ride on the Holbrook Miniature Railway, which runs in the Ten Mile Gardens.

If you're interested in local history, you have plenty of exploring to do. Visit the Woolpack Inn Museum, the Holbrook Submarine Museum and the National Museum of Australian Pottery.
