Arts, culture and heritage in Holbrook
During World War I, anti-German sentiment led to Germanton being renamed Holbrook, after British Navy Submarine Commander Norman Holbrook. Today, you can clamber all over the submarine HMAS Otway, which lies in parkland on the main road, and visit the Holbrook Submarine Museum.
There are plenty of things to see and do in this small town, which offers picturesque parklands and bushwalks, heritage buildings and submarine history. Stroll through Ten Mile Gardens, an idyllic park with picnic and barbecue facilities, or wander through bushland on the Ian Geddes Bushwalk. Kids will enjoy a ride on the Holbrook Miniature Railway, which runs in the Ten Mile Gardens.
Before you visit, make sure you check the calendar for local events, including the Planes Trains and Submarines Festival, the Holbrook Sheep and Wool Fair, and the Commander Holbrook Cup Race Meeting. Also keep an eye on events for the greater Albury area.
