Lake Lyell - Lithgow
Lake Lyell provides cooling water for both Wallerawang and Mt Piper Power Stations. The Lake is connected to Wallerawang Lake by pipeline and hence to
Wallerawang and Mt Piper Stations. Water for cooling is pumped from Lake Lyell Dam on the Cox's River, about 20 kilometres from the power station to
the Thompsons Creek Dam, close to Mt Piper, which provides an additional 27,000 mega litres of cooling water.
Facilities: The Lake is also used for recreational purposes such as powerboats, picnicking, fishing, skiing etc. Facilities include camping area, boat launching
ramp, access roads, amenities block, defined picnic and walking areas.
Hire equipment is available from the caretaker: No boat licence required, fishing licences are required to fish Lake Lyell. Shower and barbecue facilities available.
Opening times
Open Daily and day visitors must leave by 9pm. Closed Christmas Day
