Highlights
Overview
Celebrate the spirit of Australian poetry at the breathtaking Dorothea Mackellar Silo Art in Gunnedah. Towering 29 metres high, the maize mill has been transformed into a stunning tribute to one of Australia's most beloved poets. Renowned artist Heesco brings Mackellar's legacy to life with a striking portrait and the second verse of her iconic poem My Country, handwritten in her own script.
Located on Barber Street, this monumental artwork is best admired from the dedicated viewing platform on Gunnedah's newest bridge, which links the Oxley Highway and Warrumbungle Street. An information board enriches the experience, offering insight into Mackellar's life and the creation of this masterpiece. Additional viewing is available at the mill's entry point.
Please note: the silo is part of a working maize mill, so trucks may be present. For your safety, follow all signage and do not enter through the gate when open.
This awe-inspiring landmark is more than art—it's a celebration of heritage, creativity, and the enduring beauty of Australian verse. A must-see for visitors seeking culture and inspiration in the heart of Gunnedah.
