Traffic advice for Hyams Beach
Expect delays and traffic congestion at Hyams Beach this Easter Holiday Period Sunday 1 April – 18 April. We suggest you visit one of the 15 other equally beautiful and less busy White Sand beaches and explore the many options of Shoalhaven beaches on shoalhaven.com/100-beach-challenge.
- Traffic Management and Parking Rangers will be enforcing changed road conditions to deal with the high volume of visitors expected. Please carefully plan your journey to Hyams Beach by checking livetraffic.com and google maps.
- The gates of nearby Booderee National Park will likely close along with Hyams Beach so be prepared to make plans to avoid this general area.
From the sublime coastline to the emerald hinterland, the Shoalhaven region of NSW is a lovely holiday destination. Enjoy magnificent beaches, spectacular national parks and memorable animal encounters, from kangaroos on the beach to dolphins and whales in the crystal blue of Jervis Bay.

Beaches & water sports
Relax on pristine beaches in Jervis Bay, home to bottlenose dolphins, fur seals, little penguins and sea dragons. Follow the White Sands Walk along the coastline and stop for a picnic at secluded Blenheim Beach.
Shoalhaven is known for its fun and relaxed surf culture, and you can catch a wave all-year round at beaches like Mollymook and Culburra or explore the calm waters at sunset on a stand-up paddleboard adventure.
The Shoalhaven River, which flows through Nowra, and the Kangaroo River in Kangaroo Valley are popular areas for kayaking and other adventure activities. Water sports are popular at Callala Bay, Huskisson and Vincentia in Jervis Bay, as well as St Georges Basin, Sussex Inlet and Lake Conjola.

Things to do
The bushwalking is wonderful, with breathtaking vistas on walking trails along the coastline. Admire the scenery from a rock climbing adventure. The Shoalhaven is a popular rock climbing destination, featuring quality rock surfaces and diverse climbing routes. Outdoor Raw and Climb Nowra offer great climbing experiences.
You’ll find many more extraordinary things to do and see, including scenic drives through hinterland villages, dotted with wineries, cafes, antique stores and a famous donut shop. For coastal adventure, join tours for dolphin and whale watching, kayaking and fishing, and diving and surfing.

The hinterland is inspiring, with charming towns, shops and cafes, and rejuvenating day spas. Explore the inland favourites of Berry, Kangaroo Valley and Milton, a great base for climbing nearby Pigeon House Mountain. Milton is also close to the enchanting seaside towns of Mollymook and Ulladulla.
The Shoalhaven area is one of the country’s leading pet-friendly destinations. With beaches, parks, rivers and trails to choose from, there are plenty of opportunities to run, play and relax in the company of your dog.

Eat & drink
The food and wine experiences are delicious. Taste freshly shucked oysters from Australia’s Oyster Coast. You can savour locally caught seafood at fine restaurants. You’ll be delighted with the locally made cheeses and gourmet treats, and the Shoalhaven Coast wine region’s vineyards and cellar doors, including:

Getting there & where to stay
The Shoalhaven region is around 2hr 45min drive from Sydney and 2hr 30min from Canberra. Places to stay include waterfront holidays parks and campgrounds, hotels, holiday houses, cottages and luxurious retreats like Bannisters at Mollymook and Paperbark Camp.
