Tomerong
Overview
Located west of Jervis Bay and around 20 kilometres south of Nowra, Tomerong is a welcoming village easily accessed just off the Princes Highway via Hawken Road.
Before the highway bypass, Tomerong was a popular stopover for travellers journeying between Sydney and Melbourne. The area has a rich history in timber getting, with logs once transported to Sydney through the port of Jervis Bay.
The name Tomerong comes from a local Aboriginal word meaning "tall trees" reflecting the region's forested past.
Home to around 1,000 residents, Tomerong offers relaxed village living alongside easy access to beaches, fishing, boating, bushwalking and a range of outdoor activities.
Visitors can also enjoy the friendly village market, held on the third Saturday of each month, featuring local produce and a strong community atmosphere.
