Beginners Japanese Tea Workshop — North Nowra
Overview
Learn Japanese tea properly, from someone qualified to teach it.
A relaxed, hands-on introduction to Japanese tea with Taka Kaneko, Certified Japanese Tea Instructor and member of the NPO Nihoncha Instructor Association. Two hours, split evenly between understanding the tea and actually making it.
The first hour covers the history and culture of Japanese tea, what is in the leaf and its health benefits, the main types of Japanese tea and how each is brewed, and how green tea and matcha are produced.
The second hour is hands-on. After a guided demonstration of proper technique, you prepare your own bowl of matcha and brew your own cup of green tea (sencha). Questions are welcome throughout.
Anyone curious about Japanese tea is welcome. No experience is needed and there is nothing to bring. This is an educational workshop rather than a formal tea ceremony.
Every session is kept deliberately small, so everyone gets real time with the whisk and there is room to ask questions properly.
EdoMatcha is an Australian organic Japanese tea and teaware store, sourcing matcha, loose-leaf tea and handcrafted teaware directly from growers and artisans in Kyoto, Kagoshima and Fukuoka.
