This workshop is an invitation to consider the concept of care and how it can be expressed as protection, attention, or fondness. Participants will be guided to create a small, mixed media textile talisman as they consider the texture, feeling and rhythm of what care looks like to them.

Attendees are welcome to bring along materials that they might like to include in their creation, though Emma will have a selection of fabric, beads and found objects available for use and inspiration.

Emma Rani Hodges lives and works on the unceded lands of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. They are 'Chan pen luk khrueng Thai Australia', which in English translates to 'I am the child of Thailand and Australia'.

Their practice navigates their family's lived experience of migration, everchanging relationships to folklore and spirituality, as well as recollections of personal and community histories. Hodges considers these topics in relation to place (colonised land) and society. They articulate their ideas through a fluctuation of found object assemblage, mixed media textiles and painting.
