This pleasant flatwater paddle takes you southwest across Tuross Lake and around the south side of Horse Island. Take a map and a compass with you to avoid too much-unplanned exploration.

There is easy access off Trafalgar Road / Nelson Parade at Lavender Bay, just west of the boat ramp. Ample free parking is available alongside the shallow sandy edge. Toilets and waterside cafes nearby.

After paddling under a small bridge turn left at the T junction to work your way around the southern tip of Cambanthin Island arriving at the Tuross River. Turn left at this T junction to paddle 300 metres up the Tuross River to the entrance to Borang lake on your left. Paddle across the Lake and return via the same route. The entrance to Borang Lake is shallow so this paddle is best undertaken on the high tide.
If you like to throw a line in while you paddle, the Tuross River (specifically the lower estuary and Tuross Lake) is a renowned recreational fishing haven completely closed to commercial netting. It is a premier spot to target dusky flathead, yellowfin bream, and sand whiting.
