Wilsons is essentially the Diggers Camp back beach, and what a splendid back beach it is.

It’s accessible by walking south around Bare Point and Wilsons Headland, or more easily accessed by walking from the Wilsons Headland picnic area.

Looking south from Wilsons headland, you’ll see Wooli in the distance, and what appears to be a solitary high-rise apartment block. It’s actually a water tower.

Though there are a couple of wooden observation platforms overlooking the beach, there are no toilets or amenities here, and of course it’s not patrolled. It’s not a bad swimming beach and has been known to produce the odd nice peak for surfers, particularly on an east or nor’east swell.

Be careful swimming though, there’s a few rips swirling and often an inshore gutter.

Depending on the level of the sand that’s blown up at the base of the impressive wooden staircase, there’s either 98 or 99 steps in total back up to the picnic area. Just thought you would like to know.

Does not cater for people with access needs.
