Artist Osvaldo Budet in Conversation with Nancy Cushing
Overview
Join artist Osvaldo Budet for a conversation with Nancy Cushing as they explore the ideas, histories, and processes that shape Budet's practice. Together, they will discuss themes of looking at inherited objects, and how colonial histories permeate public space.
Budet's work in the exhibition Upriver Downriver about the Maitland Black Boy Hitching Post is informed by his experience growing up in Borikén, Puerto Rico, a country still held within the political, legal, and psychological structures of colonialism. This condition has shaped the way he understands images, authority, history, and power.
Nancy Cushing is the Associate Professor at the Univerity of Newcastle's School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Science. Her research includes statues and memorials and their role in urban history.
Audience questions and conversations are encouraged at this event.
