Breeza
Overview
Discover Breeza – A Charming Village on the Liverpool Plains
Nestled just 45 kilometres south-east of Gunnedah along the Kamilaroi Highway, Breeza is a picturesque village overlooking the rich, fertile expanse of the Liverpool Plains. Its name, derived from the local Aboriginal language, means "One Hill"—a fitting tribute to the serene landscape that surrounds it.
This diverse farming region is renowned for its seasonal beauty. Throughout the year, the sweeping plains transform into vibrant fields of sunflowers, sorghum, canola, wheat, and cotton, creating postcard-perfect views that captivate visitors and photographers alike.
A Glimpse into History
Breeza was first settled in 1848 by Andrew Lang, and its past is steeped in fascinating stories. While bushranger Ben Hall was born near Maitland, local lore recalls his father working at Breeza Station. Today, a striking mural—"Ben Hall's Wall"—stands proudly in the heart of Breeza, commemorating Hall's final years and the wild colonial days of yesteryear.
Relax and Refresh
Just off the Kamilaroi Highway, you'll find a welcoming park and rest area complete with picnic tables and public amenities—an ideal spot to pause, stretch your legs, and soak in the panoramic views across the plains.
Lights, Camera, Action!
Breeza also boasts a unique claim to fame: it was a filming location for "Superman Returns" in 2005. The production built the iconic Kent family farmhouse and barn and planted a giant cornfield on a 1,200-hectare property south of Breeza. The blockbuster went on to gross over $391 million worldwide upon its 2006 release. A signed rural scene photo from the film's stars now resides at the Gunnedah Rural Museum, offering fans a tangible link to Hollywood history.
Whether you're drawn by its rich heritage, cinematic connection, or simply the breathtaking beauty of the Liverpool Plains, Breeza is a destination that promises charm, character, and unforgettable views.
