The war memorial stands in the middle of Memorial Park, Tambar Springs.

It is said to be the earliest memorial erected in country Australia to World War I Servicemen. The memorial includes an obelisk of Italian marble surmounted by a marble sculpture of a young soldier, with downcast eyes and resting easy.

Local history states that 94 servicemen from Tambar Springs and district stepped forward after War had broken out. It was the highest number of servicemen per capita from the small rural village in Australia to answer the patriotic call.

Years later, Memorial Stone gates were erected at the entrance to the site and the names of all the Service men and women from Tambar Springs and district are etched in stone.
