Overview
The Dorothea Mackellar Centre is located on South Street (Anzac Park), Gunnedah.
The centre offers an opportunity to take poetry lovers from far and wide on a journey into this "wordy" world. Experience the poetry of Dorothea Mackellar in the town that has inspired some of her works. The centre also houses the extensive archives and records of the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards and the headquarters of the national poetry competition.
The Jean Isherwood Water Colour Collection depicting verses of "My Country" is displayed in the Bill Clegg Wing of the Mackellar Centre and is worth a special visit.
The Mackellar Centre is open to the general public every Friday and Saturday between 9.30am and 1.30pm.
The Centre managed by the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Society Inc. The Society is made up of local, passionate volunteers. Entry to the Centre is by way of a gold coin donation.
Visits by tour groups can been accommodated by apppointment only.
