In this workshop, award-winning author Amy Doak will teach young writers elements of mystery and crime writing, share where her ideas come from, and explain how to add tension, action and excitement to stories.

Writers will leave with ideas on a crime story, and a tension-filled scene to expand on.

Amy Doak writes mysteries filled with action, adventure, fun and heart. Her debut Young Adult novel Eleanor Jones is not a Murderer won the 2024 Davitt Award for Best YA Crime Novel; and the third book in the popular series: Eleanor Jones Is Playing With Fire won the 2026 Indie Book Awards for Best YA Novel. Amy's novels have also been multiple recipients of both CBCA notable and ABIA awards nods.

Amy released a stand alone mystery in November 2025: What Have They Done To Liza McLean? and her latest Eleanor novel Eleanor Jones Is Not Drowning has just been hit bookstores and libraries. She lives in regional Victoria with her husband, two teenage children, dog, and a very grumpy cat.
