War Of The Worlds
Overview
Freeroam Theatre invites you to look up at the night sky… and maybe get a little closer to the edge of your seat.
Presenting a bold, reimagined War of the Worlds — a fresh take on the legendary 1898 classic by H.G. Wells, adapted right here for this backyard.
When curious reporters Tess and Paul chase a story deep into remote Australia, they expect dust, rumours, and maybe a decent pint at the local pub. What they don't expect is Dot—the town's delightfully eccentric larrikin—or George, the pub owner who yearns for something more…
And they definitely don't expect the sky to start watching back.
As long-buried truths begin to surface, something else emerges from above: visitors from Mars. Suddenly the quiet outback isn't so quiet anymore. With chaos spreading and danger closing in, our unlikely heroes are thrust apart and forced to face a world that is changing faster than they can understand.
Equal parts thrilling, heartfelt, and just a little cheeky, War of the Worlds is Freeroam's first fully devised production, blending improvisation, modern storytelling, and the company's love of bold theatrical experimentation.
So come along for the ride — across time, space, and the Australian outback — as we explore human resilience, the power of community, and who we become when everything changes.
