Discover a rural oasis at Corynnia Station

Corynnia Station is an enormous 7,000-hectare property that sits pretty in Carrathool, about an hour’s drive west of Griffith. In addition to having a flock of 11,000 sheep, the estate has an irrigating crop program including cotton and grains; you can learn more on a farm tour, which also visits the shearing shed. Choose between accommodation in the homestead, a one-bedroom cottage and a six-bedroom lodge, all of which are surrounded by a lush garden oasis replete with a pool and tennis court. The best bit? Pets are welcome.

Go a little bit glam at Hillview Farmstay

Glamping safari tents are just one of the accommodation options at Hillview Farmstay, a 400-hectare working estate that also comes with modern one-bedroom cottages and a four-bedroom lodge, each with its own barbecue and kitchen facilities. The estate is pet-friendly, but there are plenty of other animals to mingle with over the grounds, including alpacas, horses, chicken sheep and goats; you can participate in one of the three daily animal feedings or head out on a buggy ride. Or just chill out on your verandah with a bottle of local wine and a cheese board, while keeping watch for visiting kangaroos.

Covering a whopping 2,800 hectares on the outskirts of Gundagai, Kimo Estate unites style, sustainability and country swagger in equal measure. There are a range of accommodation option offerings available on this working sheep and cattle farm, including the Shearer’s Quarters, with space to sleep 12, as well as A-frame eco-huts that are perfect for couples – the open fireplaces are a welcome touch in winter. If you want to bring your dog along, Windies and Daleys are two- and three-bedroom workers cottages that have a fenced-in yard.

Get hands-on picking fruit at Catania Fruit Salad Farm

The family-owned, award-winning Catania Fruit Salad Farm is one of the oldest in the district, with the original mud-brick farmhouse built in 1912. The accommodation, however, is much more modern, with space to sleep six replete with a full kitchen – you can also camp on the grounds, but must be self-sufficient. Just 8km from Griffith, the 20-hectare property is lovingly maintained by your hosts Joe and Sharon, who can take you out on a 90-minute farm safari where you’ll discover more than 60 different types of fruits and nuts plus stop along the way to pick some straight from the source. Pets are welcome, as long as they don’t disturb the farm’s resident animals.

If you want your family to have a real working farm experience, you’ve come to the right place. Check in to Wallendbeen’s guest cottage (with space to sleep four) and you can get your hands dirty collecting fresh eggs, foraging in the garden for produce, joining the owners on a walk to feed animals, or even mending fences. Then sleep soundly in the private cottage, which spent most of its life as a regional schoolhouse – today there are comfy beds, a kitchen and neat bathroom.
