Art Exhibition - No Tourists - If You Live Here, You’re From Here By Kirsty Dixon
Overview
Rusten House Art Centre presents an exhibition of oil paintings by Kirsty Dixon.
Through the depiction of ordinary people, heritage buildings and everyday life, this exhibition gives voice to Queanbeyan and regional Australia. It honours the pride, joy and quiet dignity of families, workers and migrants, while recognising generations who built the communities, industries and essential services sustaining the Nation's Capital.
Queanbeyan is not Canberra's lesser neighbour, nor a "struggle town" viewed through an elitist institutional bubble. It has its own history, identity and cultural authority, shaped by enduring First Nations culture, migration, labour and resilience. Fiercely optimistic about multicultural Australia, the exhibition rejects divisive clickbait and celebrates the daily routines and joy of a diverse community. Queanbeyan and the surrounding towns are not peripheral to our National story; they are its heartbeat.
This exhibition forms part of the Queanbeyan Arts Trail.
