Fairbridge Children's Park

Fairbridge Farm School operated near Molong, NSW, on Wiradjuri Country, from 1938 to 1974 as a home and training institution for British child migrants. Nearly 1,000 children, aged between four and 18, were sent from the UK under promises of care and opportunity. In practice, boys were trained for farm work and girls for domestic service, with limited formal education.

As former residents aged and the original village fell into neglect, the Old Fairbridgians Association (OFA) sought to create a lasting memorial to their shared experience. With minimal resources but strong community support, they developed the Fairbridge Children's Park, which opened in 2020. The park, located at a former rest stop near the original farm, was designed as a place for reflection and storytelling rather than a traditional monument. Its layout follows the children's journey in four themed precincts, connected by a central path along Molong Creek, a site of childhood significance.

Today, the park serves as a space for learning, reconciliation, and remembrance, complementing local tourism and preserving an important chapter of Australian history.
