Dungog by Design's "In the Frame" artists for April 2026 are Laura Arnull & Julie Taylor.

Laura and her mother Julie share a deep connection to the family farm where Laura grew up and Julie still lives. Surrounded by its landscapes, animals and changing seasons, both artists draw inspiration from this environment. Their art – Laura in painting and Julie in ceramics - reflect a shared appreciation for the quiet beauty of rural life. This exhibition brings together two perspectives shaped by the same place, expressed through different materials and creative paths.

For Laura, painting is an act of memory and connection, and she continues to draw inspiration from the farm. Working primarily in acrylic with a limited palette, Laura captures the quiet character and shifting moods in her landscapes.

Julie enjoys the way clay feels in her hands and its endless versatility. Currently working primarily in earthenware, she likes creating a 'canvas' of clay, adding texture and colour into the surface. Her work carries suggestions of landscapes and whimsical imagery, often enhanced with decals and touches of lustre that add mood and layers of detail.

Living on the family farm inspires much of her work – reflecting a love of the natural environment , the creatures that share it, and especially her flock of feathered friends that bring joy every day.
