If you are the type who loves a little spice in your life, you won’t want to miss out on the Sawtell Chilli Festival on the Coffs Coast.
What was once a small local event has grown in leaps and bounds in recent years – more than 10,000 people now descend on the village on the first Saturday in July to sample some of the nation’s finest chilli products.
Whether you’re after just a bit of spice to add energy to your cooking or you want to challenge your friends to see who can handle the hottest of the hot sauces, you’ll find plenty of chilli-themed fun at the festival.
Whatever your tolerance for heat, there are great meal options to suit everyone, as several local restaurants and cafes will be on hand to dish up some of their signature cuisine. Elsewhere, you’ll find lots of entertainment and music – as well as competitions and giveaways to brighten your day!
Now in its 15th year, the Sawtell Chilli Festival is a family-friendly event that encourages plenty of participation. If you make your own chilli products, you can enter them in the Homemade Chilli Products Competition. Categories include jams, sauces, baked goods, relish, confectionery and an all-encompassing ‘other’ in case your recipe of choice doesn’t fit into the main five.
Of course, a visit to the Sawtell Chilli Festival also puts you in a perfect position to spend some time exploring the Coffs Coast, which is beautiful at any time of year. Sawtell is located just south of Coffs Harbour and is the ideal base if you want to experience the natural beauty of Bongil Bongil National Park.
Coffs Harbour itself is a great place to spend some time getting active. From surfing and and sailing to other adventure sports, there is something here to appeal to visitors of every age and ability. Best of all, there are plenty of accommodation options on the area to choose from – why not stay and play for a couple of days?
