Hunter Valley Christmas Lights Spectacular on now until 26 January
The Hunter Valley Gardens host one of the largest Christmas lights show in the southern hemisphere, with more than 1.5 million lights. The light exhibitions include an Alice in Wonderland and North Pole display, as well as daily visits from Santa. There’ll also be food and beverage stalls, jumping castles and amusement rides.
Destination NSW Home Ground Cricket Tour 2 December – 11 February
A summer celebration of cricket and community that will travel through 27 towns across NSW in the lead up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Visit the Travelling Cricket Museum and keep an eye out for appearances by cricketing legends throughout the tour. In December, the tour visits the towns of Dubbo, Moree, Armidale, Lismore, Grafton, Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Taree and Tamworth.
National Cherry Festival 5 December – 7 December
The town of Young celebrates its status as the cherry capital of Australia during this annual three-day festival that features cherry pie eating contests, cherry pip spitting competitions, live music, farmers markets and more.
International Children’s Games 6 – 11 December
For the first time, Australia will host the International Children’s Games in Lake Macquarie. The games are the largest multi-sport youth games in the world and will welcome approximately 1,500 international athletes to the lakeside city.
Australian Beach Soccer Cup 13 – 14 December
Wollongong hosts one of Australia’s biggest beach soccer tournament on the sands of North Beach. Now in its fifth year, this free event is a spirited weekend that draws in thousands of people with live music, entertainment from cheerleaders and samba dancers, as well as children’s activities.
Sydney Sixers Big Bash Match 16 December
The Sydney Sixers Big Bash cricket side plays a T20 warm-up game against an Illawarra Invitational XI at North Dalton Park at Fairy Meadow in Wollongong. The Illawarra Invitational XI will comprise players from the Sydney Sixers squad and top local players.
Like Us: Patricia Partini on now until 22 February
Held at Newcastle Art Gallery, Like Us is an exhibition of sculptures, paintings, drawing and videos by internationally respected Australian artist, Patricia Partini. The exhibition premieres new works alongside significant pieces from the last fifteen years and aims to invite the viewer into a different world where the natural and artificial meet.
