Another year is coming to an end, and so has arrived the time to explore some of the best ways to say goodbye to 2017 and hello to 2018. For those of you living outside of Sydney, or simply wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, there are still many great ways to ring in the new year with your closest family & friends.
Whether you celebrate New Year’s Eve in Wollongong to New Year’s Eve at the Central Coast, you’ll be sure to have a good time and make lasting memories for years to come.

New Years in Bathurst only gets bigger every year, and this year is expected to be one of the biggest yet. Kicking off at 4pm at Victoria Park, take the family down for a guaranteed night of never-ending fun and free entertainment. Bathurst will come to life showcasing a sky full of colour, live local music, AUD1 show rides, a variety of food, free face painting, free jumping castles, an adventure playground, and of course, the much anticipated highlight of the night, the spectacular fireworks display a 9pm.
If you are looking for an action-packed evening then the Wagga Skyworks show at APEX Park is the New Year’s Eve event for you. Celebrations will begin with a galore of children’s activities, amusement rides, live music and a ton of food trucks to fill yourself up. Then, by the waters of Lake Albert, be amazed by on-water entertainment including displays by talented local wake-boarders, bare-foot skiers and more. The night doesn’t end there either, with the amazing Fiery Fireworks Finale going off at 9:30pm.
New Year’s celebrations in Wollongong is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event with loads of entertainment for both the young and old. Enjoy a range of live music, roving performers, children’s activities, face painting, amusement rides, food and novelty stalls. The night will of course end with a bang, igniting with a spectacular firework show at 9pm. To get in on the free festivities, head down to Belmore Basin, Wollongong Harbour Foreshore Park from 6pm to 10pm.
Feeling more of a white and snowy Christmas down under this year? Ski on down to Thredbo’s New Year’s Party to welcome in the new year in a cooler way. The free-event will take place at Village Square from 5pm, with entertainment for all ages. Celebrate with pumping music, glow sticks, and even a mischievous clown. The party continues from 9pm with Hard Cover Music. Just be sure to rug up!
Home to the famous Kiama Blowhole, Kiama also boasts one of the biggest coastal NYE show’s outside of Sydney. Starting from 4pm, pack a picnic and bring your family down to Black Beach for a spectacular night. The NYE Kiama Sky Show lineup includes Eat Street food trucks & stalls, live music and carnival rides, as well as a beautiful spectacle of fireworks and laser light shows from 9pm.
The Gosford Waterfront NYE Festival is one of the most iconic events on the Central Coast. The event is perfect for a great family night out and to see in the new year. There will be something for everyone, with markets, rides and food stalls along the waterfront. Enjoy the view as the spectacular fireworks display blasts off at 9:15pm. The Central Coast Mariners will also be playing once again, amongst other great entertainment on the main stage.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Dubbo with Regional NSW’s best fireworks at Caltex Park. This is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event. Bring your own picnic, snacks, rugs or chairs, and enjoy a host of children’s activities, market stalls and a mini carnival. The event starts at 5pm, with fireworks at 9pm and concluding at 9:30pm. Entry is only $2 for adults, and $1 for children under 14. NSW Police and security staff will be in attendance.
