Overview
Standing proudly in Dunedoo, the Dunedoo Silo Art transforms historic grain silos into a striking outdoor gallery celebrating the town's agricultural heritage, local identity and sporting achievements.
Originally opened in 1936, the grain silos served the district's farming community until their closure in 2014. In 2019, the Dunedoo Development Group secured NSW Government funding to transform the silos into a colourful landmark along the Australian Silo Art Trail.
Artist Peter Mortimore, whose wife Carolyn grew up in Dunedoo, created murals featuring local champion jockey Hugh Bowman alongside legendary racehorse Winx and trainer Chris Waller. Bowman's famous 'She's Apples' winning gesture celebrates their remarkable racing achievements.
Other sections showcase the region's picturesque rural landscapes and graceful black swans, reflecting the town's name, believed to derive from the Wiradjuri language for 'black swan'.
In 2021, artist Daniel Krause, assisted by Jarad Danby, completed an additional mural depicting a young boy reading in a wheat field against a vibrant country sunset.
Located along Bolaro Street, the Dunedoo Silo Art is a free attraction and a memorable stop for travellers exploring the Warrumbungle Region. Take time to admire the artwork, capture a photograph and discover the stories behind this remarkable local landmark.
