This site is highly significant to the Bundjalung Nation as it is known as our healing lake mentioned in our complexed stories of the Beginning of our nation and the Three Brothers Story of their journey to our lands, the creation of our lore's and customs and creation of our nation.
Lake Ainsworth was a significant Ceremonial sit and campsite for local Aboriginal People, it was used for gatherings, ceremonies and seasonal living place. The surrounding landscape include Bora Rings( traditional initiation grounds and other Aboriginal archaeological sites like middens and burial grounds.
The lake is featured in Aboriginal Dreaming Stories, including the ancestral figures (the Three Brothers) which underpins cultural beliefs, about the landscape and its connection to creation and ongoing spiritual presence.
Some accounts of oral history record some parts of the lake culturally set aside for women's activities birthing and bathing practices in the waters therapeutic tea-tree waters. the lake reflects its role in community life and cultural rites.
