Finley Sheep Dog Trials
Overview
The Finley Show Society annual Sheep Dog Trials showcase the incredible synergy between handler and hound, taking place over the June long weekend.
The competition attracts top-tier triallers from across Australia, including New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland. The event features various categories—including Open, Improver, Novice, and Encourage—ensuring a platform for both seasoned champions and budding enthusiasts.
The trials follow the traditional "Three-Sheep" format, where a dog must navigate three sheep through a series of obstacles, such as hurdles and a final pen, within a strict 15-minute time limit. It is a true test of "stockmanship" requiring patience, precision, and the dog's natural ability to "read" the sheep.
